【摘要】:Thistestmethodisintendedforusebythoseinthewastemanagementindustriestoaidindescribingthephysicalcharacteristicsofwaste.Thistestmethodhastwouses.Oneistovisuallyscreenwastesbeingreceivedatthelaboratorytoidentifyingdiscrepanciesbetweenthewaste,manifest,andhistoricaldescriptions.Theotheruseistovisuallyexaminesoilandwatersampleswhiletheyarebeingcollected.Thisinformation,alongwithprofessionaljudgmentduringsamplecollection,canbeusedtoincreasetheknowledgeofthesitecontaminationbyincreasingorreducingthenumberofsamplescollectedbasedonvisibleindicationofcontaminationorlackofvisibleindicationofcontamination.Forexample,ifasoilorgroundwatersampleiscollectedx201C;upgradientx201D;oftheareaofknownorsuspectedcontaminationtoobtainsitebackgroundconcentrations,andthesampleappearscontaminated,theupgradientareacanberelocatedduringthatsamplingevent.Visualobservationcouldalsoshowthatthesamplingparametersneedtobeincreasedordecreased.Thismayreduceoreliminatetheneedforadditionalsamplingtripstothefield.1.1Thistestmethodisusedtoidentifywastesbydescribingcertainphysicalproperties.Ithasbeendevelopedasarapidbuteffectivemeansforvisuallyscreeningwasteswhenreceivedinthelaboratoryorduringcollectionatthesamplingsite.1.2Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Specifichazardandwarninginformationisgivenin8.1.6.
